CFO Sink, University of Florida at Okaloosa County Announce Campaign to Promote Financial Literacy

TALLAHASSEE – Florida's Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink and The University of Florida at Okaloosa County announced today they are partnering to present Okaloosa Saves in conjunction with "America Saves Week."  The campaign promotes financial literacy by highlighting the importance of saving money, reducing debt, and building wealth. 
 
"As Florida's chief financial officer, it is my job to look out for the financial interests of all Floridians," said CFO Sink.  "That includes educating consumers how they can best protect themselves and their families from excessive financial debt."
 
The Department of Financial Services will be present at Saturday's financial fair, providing information to Okaloosa residents about the department's services for consumers, such as returning unclaimed property and providing education on financial and insurance issues.
 
Okaloosa Saves is the local campaign for America Saves, a community coalition intended to lower high debt levels in Okaloosa County through financial education.  With the aid of financial experts, the coalition will educate residents with "how-to" introductory workshops on saving and investing.  The schedule for Okaloosa Saves will be as follows:

As a statewide elected officer of the Florida Cabinet, Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink oversees the Department of Financial Services, a multi-division state agency responsible for management of state funds and unclaimed property, assisting consumers who request information and help related to financial services, and investigating financial fraud. CFO Sink also serves as the State Fire Marshal.
