Recommended by the Constitutional Revision Commission, and passed into law by voters in 1998, the Florida Legislature carried out an amendment to the state's constitution by merging the Department of Insurance, Treasury, State Fire Marshal and the Department of Banking and Finance into the Department of Financial Services effective January 2003.

CFO Alex Sink is currently serving her first term as Florida's CFO, having been elected statewide in 2006 in her first run for public office. Her focus is Florida's fiscal solvency, and this charge includes the insurance concerns of our state.

She is also a statewide officer of the Florida Cabinet. As one of only four state-wide elected officials in Florida, CFO Sink is part of the collective decision and rule-making body for the State of Florida, meeting regularly to consider various issues of state importance.
