This American La France "Metropolitan" steam driven pumper was purchased new and delivered to the city of Orlando in 1911. It was a very heavy pumper and was pulled to the fire by a team of two horses. It could pump water at a rate of 500 gallons per minute.
The driver of the pumper was called the "Engineer" and had an assistant who helped him maintain the fire on the pumper to keep the steam engine and the pumps working. The firefighters and hose went to the fire on a separate "hose wagon".
