SPECIAL FIRESAFETY INSPECTOR CERTIFICATION

 

To be certified as a Special Firesafety Inspector in the State of Florida, an individual must successfully complete 80 hours of basic certification training for Special Firesafety Inspectors, or have received equivalent training in another state, and pass a state written examination. Documentation of training is to be submitted with the required Application for Special Firesafety Inspector Certification Examination (DFS-K4-1459), Personal Inquiry Waiver (DFS-K4-1020), along with all other supporting documents, at least 10 business days prior to the scheduled test date.

Please note, the required application includes a fingerprint card that must be obtained from the Standards section. When submitting your application, be sure to include the required fingerprint card and processing fee. Please refer to Application and Fingerprint Card Instructions & Fee Information (DFS-K4-1019).

Two 40-hour courses are required for certification. A description of each course can be found by clicking the course title below. The courses are offered at the Florida State Fire College, Community and Junior Colleges through out the state, and some of the Certified Training Centers.

  • FFP 1505       FIRE PREVENTION PRACTICES
  • FFP 1510       CODES AND STANDARDS
     
  • NOTE:
    FSFC 310      SPECIAL FIRESAFETY INSPECTOR III, or Equivalant as approved by governing agency, must be completed for the first CEU requirement following original certification in first three (3) year period.

STATE STATUTE 633.081 addresses inspection of buildings and equipment; orders; firesafety inspection training requirements; certification; and disciplinary actions.
