FLORIDA HAZMAT TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATION


This certification is voluntary. To receive the Florida Hazardous Material Technician Certificate, a candidate must successfully complete the 160 hours modified IAFF Technician Program, meet the performance competencies of the SERC Training Guidelines, complete the SERC Task book SERC Haz-Mat Technician Task Book, and pass the state written 100-question multiple-choice examination with a grade of at least 70.

To take the state test, the candidate must complete the required Hazardous Material Technician Certification Application, pay a processing fee, and submit a notarized Verification of Training by Fire Chief for Hazardous Materials Technician Certification Examination form (affidavit). The completed application, fee, and affidavit must be received no later than 10 business days prior to the desired scheduled test date.

Pre-requisites for this certification are Florida Firefighter I or II certification and Hazmat Operations.

This course is offered at the Florida State Fire College, Community and Junior Colleges throughout the state, and some of the Certified Training Centers.
