WHEREAS, , it is important to the economic soundness of the State of Florida and its residents for consumers to make informed decisions regarding the purchase of goods and services; and
WHEREAS, consumers of every age conduct financial transactions requiring informed decisions on a daily basis and an educated public is the key to ensuring consumers can avoid unfair trade and business practices; and
WHEREAS, many financial transactions are conducted online and require an understanding of privacy concerns and identity theft protection; and
WHEREAS, , there is an abundance of free resources available to help people to protect their privacy, manage their money and combat consumer fraud; and
WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services helps protect the public by resolving complaints about many consumer issues and operating a toll free hotline that is available to take complaints, provide information and assist with specific consumer problems; and
WHEREAS, , the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has joined the Florida Department of Financial Services, Office of the Attorney General, the Federal Trade Commission, the U.S. Postal Service, AARP, the Consumer Federation of America other consumer advocacy groups, to launch the annual observance of National Consumer Protection Week promoting financial education.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Governor and Cabinet of the State of Florida, in conjunction with this annual national observance, do hereby declare the week of March 7-13, 2010 as
NATIONAL CONSUMER PROTECTION WEEK
in the State of Florida and urge people to take advantage of their consumer rights and the resources available to protect them.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Governor and Cabinet do hereby urge all consumers to join in the fight for consumer protection and education by implementing the Dollars & Sense: Rated “A” for All Ages” theme of National Consumer Protection Week.
