WHEREAS, Bruce Gillander the son of a Presbyterian minister was born in Warsaw, Indiana, in 1942; and
WHEREAS, Bruce Gillander graduated from Grove City College in Grove City, Pennsylvania, in 1964, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics; and
WHEREAS, while enrolled in college, Bruce Gillander also served in the Air Force ROTC, which focuses on leadership development, problem solving, strategic planning and professional ethics; and
WHEREAS, in 1966, Bruce Gillander married Maria Luisa Alves Faria in Bedford, England; and
WHEREAS, later, he joined the United States Air Force and served for four years at Chicksands, Air Force Base in Bedford, England, obtaining the rank of Captain and was subsequently discharged in 1968; and
WHEREAS, from 1968 through 1971, Bruce Gillander was employed as a Marketing Research/Branch Manager with the First Union Bank and furthered his career by being promoted to Vice President of People’s Bank of Georgia; and
WHEREAS, from 1973 through 1976, Bruce Gillander was employed as President of Flagship Bank in Tallahassee, Florida; and
WHEREAS, in 1976, Bruce Gillander served as Executive Vice President and President of Citibank of Alabama; and
WHEREAS, on July 16, 1979, Bruce Gillander became employed as a Bureau Chief of Funds Management, Division of Treasury in the former Department of Insurance; and
WHEREAS, in 1986, Bruce Gillander received a Master’s of Business Administration in Finance from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida, enthusiastically following all FSU sports, especially FSU football; and
WHEREAS, since May 1, 2003, Bruce Gillander has been the Director of the Division of Treasury in the Florida Department of Financial Services; and
WHEREAS, for over 30 years, Bruce Gillander has served the citizens of Florida with pride and distinction.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Governor and Cabinet of the State of Florida do hereby recognize
ALEXANDER BRUCE GILLANDER
and thank him for his many years of dedicated service.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Governor and Cabinet of the State of Florida do hereby thank Bruce’s family, his wife Luisa, his daughters Betty and Christina and his son, Robert and his son-in-law John and daughter-in-law Melody and his granddaughter, Lindsay.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Governor and Cabinet of the State of Florida do hereby wish Bruce many years of health and happiness, clear blue skies for hours of tennis, the perfect bridge hand and traveling with his wife.
