Florida Insurance Consumer Advocate Robin Smith Westcott, appointed by Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater, has been invited by State Senator Eleanor Sobel (District 33) to a panel discussion pertaining to the availability of homeowners insurance at an affordable rate, coverage for a catastrophic loss and how to file a claim.
Westcott encourages all policyholders to attend the town hall and share their concerns with her.
The Consumer Advocacy Town Hall on Property Insurance will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2013, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Hallandale Beach City Hall, City Commission Chambers, at 400 South Federal Highway, Hallandale Beach, FL 33009.
Westcott has recently held numerous homeowners insurance consumer forums throughout the state in order to provide policyholders with a platform to share their experience with filing a claim. Many described long and frustrating processes that impeded their families’ ability to recover. For this reason, Westcott has launched the Homeowners' Policy & Claims Bill of Rights Working Group which is meeting this summer to discuss all aspects of the claim handling process. The next meeting of the working group will be held on August 19, 2013, at the Pinellas Realtors Organization located at 4590 Ulmerton Road, Clearwater, FL 33762 from 1:00 PM to 6:30 PM.
