TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - An attorney with several years of experience evaluating Florida property insurers has been named the state's new insurance consumer advocate.
Robin Westcott was named to the post Wednesday by Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater. Westcott will also continue in her role as the executive director of the Medicaid and Public Assistance Fraud Strike Force.
Westcott has spent most her career in state government, including the last six years at the Office of Insurance Regulation, where she was responsible for ensuring that property and casualty companies doing business in Florida were financially stable and that they were not overcharging their policyholders.
Westcott said Wednesday that her first goal is to address the reasons behind the escalating auto and property insurance rates facing Florida consumers.
