Florida Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink’s office has partnered with the Realsense Prosperity Campaign and the Internal Revenue Service to promote awareness about free tax preparation services available for low-to-moderate income families to improve the financial outlook for Northeast Florida citizens. 
 
The event will include free tax preparation (current, amended and retroactive back 3 years) and connect struggling families with resources and assistance.  The Department's informational booth will include insurance and financial information and staff will conduct unclaimed property searches from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm.

Identity theft continues to be one of the fastest growing crimes in the nation and this workshop will discuss identity theft schemes and how to avoid them.

Community, active military and veterans organizations are welcome to  send up to  three people.  With advance notice, sufficient tables and chairs will be provided for any organization that would like to display their information.

  First Time Homebuyer Workshop - LIFT

The topics of Homeowner Insurance, tips to avoid predatory lending and how to "Verify Before You Buy" will be discussed by representatives from the Florida Department of Financial Services from 1:15 p.m. until 2:15 p.m. 
 
The total Workshop is all day Saturday, with a full day of education from early morning until late afternoon.  Attendees will be given a certificate that is needed when a consumer uses SHIP (Statewide Housing Initiative Program) funds to assist in buying their first home, or to people that have not been homeowners in the past 3 years.  The class is required for grant funding recipients.

The Florida Department of Financial Services is partnering with Consumer Credit Counseling Service to provide a comprehensive training class about buying your first home.  Attendees will be given a certificate that is needed when a consumer uses SHIP (Statewide Housing Initiative Program) funds to assist in buying their first home, or to people that have not been homeowners in the past 3 years.  This segment begins at 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. and will cover homeowners insurance, predatory lending and how to verify before you buy.  The class is scheduled to be held for several hours on Saturday.
