Reciprocating States

Life including Variable Annuity and/or Health Applicants for Resident Licensure

Licensure as a life/health insurance agent in another state that reciprocates with Florida exempts an applicant from the educational requirement (40-hour life/health agent qualification course); it does NOT exempt an applicant from having to take and pass the applicable exam(s) unless the applicant holds the CLU designation.

Foreign Insurance Agencies

The Division signed a reciprocal agreement with Puerto Rico for property, casualty, surplus lines, life, health/disability and variable annuity. Per Florida Statutes 626.015(8), 626.171(2)(4) and 626.172, we will issue non-resident agency licenses in Puerto Rico for agents/producers obtaining property, casualty, life, health and annuity license(s) and appointments.

Fingerprint processing for foreign officers who do not hold a social security or legal alien card requires a longer process to receive results from FDLE. The individuals must submit 2 completed fingerprint cards along with a check for the $50.30 processing fee to the attention of Agent and Agency Licensing. The check must be payable to Department of Financial Services or DFS. The timeframe to receive fingerprint results for foreign officers is 2-3 months.

Adjusters for Non-resident Licensure

Applicants for an independent or company adjuster license in another state that required an examination at the time of licensure exempts an applicant from the examination requirement in Florida.
