EVERYONE GOES HOME!

The creed of the Safety Section is; EVERYONE GOES HOME!  We are devoted to providing you with the tools to help you do just that; go home to your family after the call is over. We sincerely hope you will find something here that will make your next shift or call a little safer for you.

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation held a symposium in Tampa, Florida on March 10 and 11, 2004. This was a gathering of some of the greatest minds in firefighting for the sole purpose of trying to find a way to decrease the loss of life in the fire service. During the week of April 16, 2004, a follow-up meeting was held in Arizona to review the report and begin putting action behind words. In March, we met again in San Francisco to put together an action plan to implement the 16 firefighter initiatives. We have a goal of reducing firefighter line of duty deaths by 50% in 10 years and we are marching forward.

The Florida Firefighter Occupational Safety and Health Act was created in 2002. That was the same year there were two training deaths in Osceola County. This is also the year we started work on the Live Fire training rules spearheaded by Buck Tomlinson. This Safety Page is dedicated to his memory. Wear your bunker gear, all of it; wear your seat belt; slow down; and arrive safely. Put out the fire, save lives and make sure  -    EVERYONE GOES HOME!

REPORTING REQUIREMENTS FOR FIREFIGHTER DEATHS AND INJURIES

If you have three or more firefighters seriously injured (transported to the ER) at the same incident or a Line of Duty Death (LODD), you must notify the Firefighter Safety and Health section within a specific time frame.  In the instance of a LODD or three or more firefighters transported, you have 4 hours to notify us. The number to call is 1-800-NET-FIRE (1-800-638-3473) {F.A.C. 69A-62.032(11)(a)}
