Note:   The Department of Education Statewide Course Numbering System uses the FFP prefix to indicate thoses courses within the Fire Science Curriculum. The first number indicates the level, either Freshman (1) or Sophomore (2), and the last three numbers indicate the course topic. Due to the variety of courses offered through out the state it should be noted that courses with the same last three numbers are the same course, contain the same course content and contact hours regardless of the first leveling number.

First in Fire Safety Inspector Series
It is strongly recommended that these courses be taken as listed in the series.

FFP 1505 (40 contact hours, 3 college credits, class size: 15 minimum, 25 maximum)

Textbook: IFSTA Fire Inspection and Code Enforcement

Course Fee: $60.00 payable to Florida Department of Financial Services

A study of fire inspection practices, including such items as purpose; definition; Fire Prevention Bureau activities; hazards; frie behavior; fire causes; types of construction including structural features, flame spread, occupancy and fireload; inspection techniques; conducting inspections.

NOTE: This course may require work to be done prior to and /or following attendance at the course. Students will be notified prior to the class.

PRIVATE FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS I

Fourth in Fire Safety Inspector Series

Textbook: Fire Protection Systems by A. Maurice Jones, Jr., Delmar Cengage Learning

Course Fee: $60.00 payable to Florida Department of Financial Services

This is a study of private fire protection and detection systems, such as sprinkler and standpipe systems, chemical extinguishing systems, detection systems and devices. Each system is discussed as to its need, construction, preventive maintenance and individual uses.

FIRE SERVICE BUILDING CONSTRUCTION
Third in Fire Safety Inspector Series
It is strongly recommended that these courses be taken as listed in the series.

FFP 2120 (40 contact hours, 3 college credits, class size: 15 minimum, 25 maximum)

Textbook: Building Construction Related to the Fire Service; 3rd Edition

Course Fee: $60.00 payable to Florida Department of Financial Services

The curriculum in this portion of the Fire Prevention Inspection Certification Program deals with building construction. Topics include identifying hazards from assault by fire and gravity, how building construction can influence fire spread, fire confinement or structural collapse, and many other life safety issues. This is not a building course per se, but rather a course to identify construction features and their hazards under fire conditions.

CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS AND PLANS REVIEW
Fifth in Fire Safety Inspector Series
It is strongly recommended that these courses be taken as listed in the series.

FFP 2521 (40 contact hours, 3 college credits, class size: 15 minimum, 25 maximum)

Textbook: Print Plans Examiner for the Fire & Emergency Services, 1st Edition

Course Fee: $60.00 payable to Florida Department of Financial Services

This curriculum is geared toward teaching the student how to assimilate information contained in working, drawing and specifications as they relate to the fire inspector. The curriculum includes how to interpret conventional graphic communications. Accepted standards and conventions are introduced. Symbols, abbreviations, principles of technical projection, as well as, a review of construction arithmetic and geometry, are included. Related worksheets are used to allow for applied experience of finding and interpreting information from authentic drawings. Students must bring an architectural scale.

Second in Fire Safety Inspector Series

FFP 1510 (40 contact hours, 3 college credits, class size: 15 minimum, 25 maximum)

Textbook: Florida Fire Prevention Code Handbook, 2007 Ed.

Course Fee: $60.00 payable to Florida Department of Financial Services

This portion of the program is a vital segment in completing the Fire Prevention Inspector's Certification requirements. This course is designed to familiarize inspectors with the five basic units of NFPA 101. This course includes statewide fire prevention code NFPA 1.

SPECIAL FIRESAFETY INSPECTOR III

FSFC 310 (40 contact hours, 0 college credit, class size: 15 minimum, 30 maximum)

Textbook: IFSTA Building Construction Related to the Fire Service, 1st Ed;  FSFC Handouts

Course Fee: $60.00 payable to Florida Department of Financial Services

The first part of this course covers building construction, identifying hazards from assault by fire and gravity, how building construction can influence fire spread, fire confinement or structural collapse. FSFC 310      SPECIAL FIRESAFETY INSPECTOR III, or Equivalant as approved by governing agency, must be completed for the first CEU requirement following original certification in first three (3) year period.

NOTE: To obtain your Special Fire Safety Inspector Certification you must satisfactory complete FFP 1200 Fire Prevention Practices and FFP 1300 Codes and Standards.
