Boiler Inspection Information
Pursuant to Chapter 554 of the Florida
Statutes, and its subsequent Florida
Administrative Code 69A-51, the State Fire
Marshal is responsible for administering the
Boiler Safety Program, which includes safety
inspections and licensing of boilers at
public assembly locations. Each registered
boiler has a metal tag fixed to it with a
Florida (FL) identification number.
The boilers are inspected by the deputy
inspectors employed by the State Fire
Marshal and special boiler inspectors
employed by the insurance companies. Access
for inspection shall be given, during normal
reasonable hours, to any place of public
assembly in the State of Florida.
Public assembly
locations: Schools,
colleges, universities, city, county and
state government buildings, shopping malls,
grocery stores, department stores, day care
centers, community centers, churches,
hospitals, nursing homes, motels, hotels,
restaurants, boiler rooms located in
apartment complexes, dry cleaners,
laundromats, and other locations open
to the general public.
Certificate: Information
includes Florida State ID number, inspection
date, expiration date, name of the
inspector, and the inspector's employer. The
maximum allowable working pressure is
printed on the Certificate of Compliance,
which must be posted in the boiler room. An
example of the certificate of compliance is
linked :
CERTIFICATE OF COMPLIANCE .
Certificate validity: The
Certificate of Compliance for a high
pressure boiler is valid for one (1) year.
The Certificate of Compliance for a low
pressure boiler is valid for two (2) years.
Periodic Maintenance and Testing:
The owner or user of an automatic
boiler system should set up a formal system
of periodic preventive maintenance and
testing. Tests should be conducted on a
regular basis and the results recorded in a
boiler log.
New boilers being installed and/or
existing boiler needing to be inspected:
If your boiler has never been inspected,
please contact the Boiler Section to arrange
for a boiler inspection.
