What is Operation S.A.F.E?
Operation S.A.F.E is a multi-division outreach initiative led by CFO Jeff Atwater and the Florida Department of Financial Services designed to Stop Adult Financial Exploitation by protecting Florida’s seniors from financial fraud and scams through education.
Comprehensive scam and fraud prevention workshops will be held across the state to inform seniors on the many tactics scam artists use to steal their hard-earned money.
Why is it needed?
Florida is home to approximately 4.2 million seniors and currently ranks first in the nation in percentage of residents age 60 and older.
Our senior population is expected to swell to more than 5.9 million by 2020. The retirement industry is Florida’s second largest economic sector with $135 billion in spending power.
For that reason, seniors are often bombarded with investment offers and exposed to targeted fraud scams.
What will I learn?
The Psychology of a Scam – How do scam artists think?
How to Spot Fraudulent Behavior – Are you at risk?
Common Scams that Target Seniors – Is this too good to be true?
How to Fight Identity Theft – Protect, Prevent, Police
Resources to Keep You Safe – Know where to go for help.
How can I participate?
Operation S.A.F.E. hosts “Be Scam Smart” workshops throughout the state of Florida. They are open to seniors, their families, and caregivers to help inform, empower, and protect Florida’s seniors from financial scams and fraud. If you want to make sure your savings are protected, register for an upcoming workshop near you.
