Welcome to the Division of Risk Management

The mission of the Risk Management Program is to ensure that participating State of Florida agencies receive quality workers’ compensation, liability, federal civil rights, automobile liability, and property insurance coverage at reasonable rates by providing self-insurance, purchase of insurance, claims handling, and technical assistance in managing risk.

The Bureau of State Liability Claims investigates and makes appropriate dispositions on all general liability, automobile liability, federal civil rights, employment, and court-awarded attorney fee claims for damages filed against the State of Florida due to alleged negligent acts of State employees.  The three sections include: (1) civil rights and employment claims and lawsuits, (2) negligence claims and lawsuits arising in North Florida, and (3) negligence claims and lawsuits arising in South Florida.

The Bureau of State Employees’ Workers’ Compensation Claims handles all workers’ compensation claims of employees who suffer job-related injuries.  The three sections within the Bureau cover claims in the North, Central, and South Florida geographic areas.

The Bureau of Property, Financial & Risk Services includes three sections.  The Property Section handles coverage and claims for State-owned buildings and contents against loss due to lightning, windstorm, sinkholes, floods, and fires.  It also provides rental-value coverage on certain specified properties.  The Financial Services Section provides payment services for all of the Bureaus within the Division.  The Risk Services Section helps State agencies develop accident prevention and loss reduction programs.  Safety Coordinators from State agencies attend loss prevention workshops conducted by the Bureau.  The staff also provides technical assistance to the Department of Management Services in matters pertaining to the purchase of insurance.
