United Business Owners Self Insurance Fund was a workers compensation self insurance fund that only wrote policies in the state of Florida. On June 1, 1998, the company was placed into liquidation.
On March 24, 2009, the First Interim Claims Report and Recommendations on Claims was filed with the Court. On March 25, 2009, the Court issued an Order approving the report. On March 31, 2009, notices were mailed to 176 UBO claimants informing them of the Receiver’s recommendations concerning the classifications and amounts on their claims, along with instructions on how to proceed if a claimant objects to the recommendations. Objections were required to be filed by the claimant, in writing, with both the Court and the Receiver and postmarked by May 15, 2009. Objections filed after that date were not considered.
On October 23, 2009, the Receiver filed a motion with the Court for approval of the Final Claims Report, Claims Distribution Report, Distribution Accounting and for an order authorizing a distribution. On November 10, 2009, the Court issued an order granting approval for the Receiver to mail distribution checks representing 100% of the recommended and adjudicated amount to claimants in Class 1 and 46.9255% of the recommended and adjudicated amount to claimants in Class 2. On November 18, 2009, the distributions were mailed.
On May 24, 2010, the Court issued an Order that discharged the Florida Department of Financial Services of its duties as Receiver of UBO effective May 24, 2010.
