Florida's insurance-consumer advocate, Robin Smith Westcott, and the Department
of Financial Services' Division of Consumer Services are offering Florida
homeowners a chance to share their claim-handling experiences starting with a
forum Thursday evening in Orlando.
The hearing will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the headquarters of the
Orlando Regional Realtor Association, 1330 Lee Road, Orlando 32810. The next two
forums are set for March 26 in Tampa and March 27 in Jacksonville, with
additional forums scheduled throughout the state in April and May.
"Often consumers are confused and intimidated in the claim-handling process,"
Westcott said. "This is an opportunity for consumers to share their experiences
to help improve the system for everyone."
Property-insurance policyholders needing immediate assistance with an
insurance-related issue may call the state's toll-free Insurance Helpline at
1-877-693-5236 or seek assistance online.
