Funeral and Cemetery ServicesThe Bureau of Funeral and Cemetery Services within the Department of Financial Services provides administrative support for operations of the Board of Funeral and Cemetery Services. The Bureau implements and enforces Chapter 497, Florida Statutes, the Florida Funeral and Cemetery Services Act. Established October 1, 1993, the board is responsible for the regulation of cemeteries and preneed contracts within the state. Applications for licensure and registrations within the death care industry are reviewed and processed by the Bureau. Staff also conducts periodic examinations and audits to ensure compliance with Funeral and Cemetery Services law and policies. Special death care industry examinations and reviews to resolve consumer complaints and violations of law and policies are performed by the Bureau. The following types of licenses and registrations are under the jurisdiction of Chapter 497, Florida Statutes: cemetery; monument establishment; certificate of authority; burial right broker; preneed sales agent; and exempt cemetery.
