Law Enforcement Investigator II - Trainee Program

Recruiting for applicants with less than two (2) years of financial, investigative, insurance, analytical, or law enforcement experience. A college degree can substitute for one year of the required experience. Preference will be given to applicants with a college degree, those who have been working in Law Enforcement in a part-time or auxiliary (reserve) status, and those having previous financial or insurance related experience. If an individual does not hold a current certificate of compliance issued by the Criminal Justice Standard and Training Commissioner at the time of appointment, the individual must: 1) be appointed at 10% below base salary; 2) appointed in accordance with Rule 11B-27.00213, Temporary Employment Authorization; and 3) obtain a certificate of compliance within 18 months of beginning the training program. If the employee does hold a current certificate of compliance issued by the CJSTC at the time of appointment, the individual must be appointed at 5% below base salary. Employees must participate in the LE II Trainee Program for 6 months (with a Field Training Officer) and attend a DFS Investigators Training Academy which will be held in Tallahassee, Florida. This is an Open Hiring Pool for Six months. This position requires a physical agility test, a physical, an EKG, a security background check, including fingerprinting, polygraph, psychological assessment, successful completion of urine drug test, a valid driver’s license as a condition of employment. Basic Duties of LEI II

  • Conduct interviews with a wide range of persons

  • Secure documentary evidence

  • Take sworn statements

  • Conduct physical surveillance

  • Prepare prosecution summary reports

  • Assist prosecutors in preparation and presentation of insurance fraud cases

  • Obtain and serve warrants and subpoenas and makes arrests

Salary

·         Starting positions are hired at a base salary of $39,559.30. If assigned to Palm Beach, Broward, Dade, or Monroe Counties a cost of living increase of $4999.80 is added to the base salary. Salary increases are granted based on appropriations approved by the Florida State Legislature.

Application Process

1.    Interested persons may submit a State of Florida application on line in People First found at link:  https://peoplefirst.myflorida.com/.  The Supplemental Application must be mailed to the Division of Insurance Fraud headquarters in Tallahassee (the address is listed on the top of the application).  Click on Supplemental Application to download this application.  Interested persons without computer access may mail in both applications to the Division of Insurance Fraud headquarters in Tallahassee.

2.    Completed applications for the position of LEI II are forwarded to the Division of Insurance Fraud in Tallahassee. The office reviews all applications for completeness and verifies that the applicants meet the minimum qualification standards.

3.    Applications remain on file at the Division of Insurance Fraud headquarters.

4.    Applicants who are recommended to be considered further in the process will be placed on file in Tallahassee in a “Ready to Interview” pool, where they will remain until the end of the advertised pool period.

5.    Applicants in the “Ready to Interview” pool will be invited to participate in a written test and Physical Agility Test (P.A.T.).  These tests will be completed prior to being invited for the oral assessment interview.  For additional information regarding the physical agility test, see link below:  DFS Physical Agility Test.

6.    Applicants who successfully complete the above tests and oral assessment interview are forwarded to the Background Investigations section to begin background investigation. The background investigation shall include the following, pursuant to section 943.133, Florida Statutes.

  1. Neighborhood checks

  2. Previous employment checks

  3. Criminal History data checks through N.C.I.C/F.C.I.C and local agency networks

  4. Military service

  5. Applicant questionnaire

  6. Driver’s license check

  7. Personal references

  8. Credit Bureau check

  9. Educational background

  10. Discrepancy interview

  11. Controlled substance testing (drug test)

  12. Physicians Assessment (CJSTC) and EKG results

7.    Applicants who successfully complete the background investigation and based on the needs of the department, are placed in a pool where they can remain for one year.

8.    Applicants approved for hire by the Director will be required to pass a law enforcement psychological screening test preformed by a department - approved psychologist.

9.    Applicants approved for hire will be required to take and pass a polygraph test.

10.    Applicants approved for hire will also be required to have a physical examination at their own expense.  A successful EKG (within normal limits) is also required and results must be furnished to the Division.
