RESIDENT MOTOR VECHILE PHYSICAL DAMAGE AND MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN INSURANCE AGENT

Florida Statutes 626.321 (1) (a) defines a “MOTOR VEHICLE PHYSICAL DAMAGE AND MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN INSURANCE AGENT” as a general lines agent who is limited to transact insurance against only the loss or damage to any motor vehicle, which is designed for use upon a highway, including trailers and semi trailers.  The license covers insurance against failure of an original or replacement part to perform any function for which it was designed.

    Application Qualifications:

  • Complete an online application for License and submit appropriate fees.   Apply for license

  • Be a natural person at least 18 years of age.

  • Be a resident of the state of Florida.

  • Be a United States citizen or legal alien who possesses a work authorization from the United States Immigration and Naturalization Services.

  • Be fingerprinted at one of the Department's fingerprint sites.  (Link directly to locations and additional information)

  • If licensed in another state within three years, provide a Letter of Clearance.

    State Examination Qualifications (Must be completed within four years of application date):

  • Successfully completed a 25-hour insurance course in motor vehicle physical damage and mechanical breakdown insurance approved by the Department. (Find Course); or

  • Completed an approved correspondence course in motor vehicle physical damage and mechanical breakdown insurance offered by the University of Florida; or

  • Completed at least three (3) semester credit hours in casualty (including automobile physical damage) insurance by an accredited college or university; or

  • Completed a four-year degree from an accredited institution of higher learning with major course work in insurance; or

    Exemptions for State Examination (Must be completed within four years of application date):

  • A letter of clearance indicating the licensee held a property and casualty license for at least one (1) year in his/her home state and applying for a license within 90 days of becoming a resident of the State of Florida.

Special Notes

Licensees cannot be licensed as an agent or solicitor as to any other or additional kind or class of insurance coverage except the credit life and disability insurances.
