Common Use(s) of License:
An individual who is not a
resident of Florida, is currently licensed as an
independent adjuster in his or her home state of
residence for the type or kinds of insurance for
which the licensee intends to adjust claims in this
state or, if a resident of a state that does not
license independent adjusters, has passed the
department’s adjuster examination as prescribed in
s. 626.8734(1)(b) and is a self-employed independent
adjuster or associated with or employed by an
independent adjusting firm or other independent
adjuster.

STEPS TO OBTAIN NON-RESIDENT INDEPENDENT ADJUSTER LICENSE:
Step 1 - You must be:
- A natural person at least 18 years of age.
- A non-resident of the state of Florida.
- A United States citizen or legal alien who possesses a
work authorization from the United States Immigration and
Naturalization Services.

Step 2 - License Required:
- You must have the same lines of authority in your home
state before applying. Note: A Florida non-resident
license is only valid for the same line of authority you
hold in your home state. If your home state has a
reciprocal agreement with Florida
OR have obtained an adjuster professional designation
you will be exempt from the examination.

Step 3 - Must have the following prerequisite(s) before
applying:
- No other prerequisites are required.

Step 5 - Prerequisite:
- Proof of your prerequisite, as indicated in Step 2, is verified through
the National Association Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).
In the event that your license can not be verified, the Bureau may request a Letter of Certification from your home state to verify you are licensed.
The Letter of Certification can be obtained from your home state and it must be dated no earlier than 30 days of your date of application.

Step 6 - Fingerprints:
- You must submit fingerprints to the Bureau. Instructions for fingerprinting can be found by
clicking here.
Step 7 - Status notification(s):
- Once an application has been submitted, you may check
your
MyProfile account
for the status of your application. Deficiencies
will be listed under the pending license type.
Step 8 - Examination:
Disregard this step if you are not required to take an exam.

Upon approval, an e-mail will be sent to you directing you to check your messages in your
MyProfile
account. Messages are where you may print your
notifications from the department, such as an
authorization for an examination. Follow the message's instructions to schedule the examination.

Step 9 - Print license:
- Once all the above steps have been satisfied, the
department will send your approval by email. You may
then go to your MyProfile account
and print your license.
Note: If you are required to take an examination, you will not be able to print your license until the department has
received a passing result from the testing vendor.
Special Note:
- Upon licensure an independent adjuster must be appointed in his or her own name, or by an
independent adjuster or an independent adjusting firm. An independent adjuster can only have one appointment.

- There are (24) hours of continuing education required (2-ethics, 10-law; 12-optional).
- Can not hold more than one adjuster license at a time.
This license can not be held with the following licenses:
- 0-70 EMERGENCY ADJUSTER
- 0-93 LIFE (FOREIGN/MILITARY)
- 2-21 MOTOR VEHICLE AND MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN
- COMPANY ADJUSTER (ALL)
- PUBLIC ADJUSTER (ALL)
