Florida Statutes 626.854 defines a “RESIDENT PUBLIC ADJUSTER” as
any person who for money, commission, or any thing of value, prepares,
completes, or files an insurance claim form for an insured or third-party
claimant or who for money, commission, or any other thing of value,
acts or aids in any manner on behalf of an insured or third-party claimant
in negotiating for or effecting settlement of a claim or claims for
loss or damage covered by an insurance contract or who advertises for
employment as an adjuster of such claims, and also includes any person
who, for money, commission, or any other thing of value, solicits, investigates,
or adjusts such claims on behalf of any such public adjuster.
Application Qualifications:
- Complete an online application for License and submit appropriate
fees.
Apply for license
- Be a natural person at least 18 years of age.
- Be a resident of the state of Florida.
- Be a United States citizen or legal alien who possesses a work
authorization from the United States Immigration and Naturalization
Services.
- Be fingerprinted at one of the Department's fingerprint sites.

- File a fifty thousand dollar ($50,000) surety bond, using a bond form provided by the Department.

- Successfully pass Florida’s public adjuster examination. (In accordance with Florida Statute 626.241(6) no examination on worker’s compensation or health insurance shall be required for public adjusters.)

- Effective January 1, 2009, first time licensees for a Florida public adjuster license must provide a sworn affidavit verifying they have satisfied the public adjuster apprentice employment requirement set forth in Florida Statute 626.8541and 626.8651.(link to form)
Special Notes
- Attorneys at law duly licensed to practice law in the courts of this state, and in good standing with The Florida Bar are exempt from having to obtain a license per Florida Statutes 626.860.
- Upon licensure a public adjuster must be appointed in his or her own name, or by a public adjuster or a public adjusting firm. A public adjuster can only have one appointment.
